3D model of Reencaheragh Castle (Doon Point), County Kerry, Ireland (SMR KE087-046) This long, broad promontory stretches 190m from a low neck on its landward side to steep cliffs at its seaward end. The narrow neck of land is defended by a 35.5m stone rampart, the interior of the fort can be accessed via the gateway or gatehouse set within the rampart wall, both likely to represent later additions to this large stone wall. A rectangular house sits just inside the interior of the stone Rampart.

This model was created from an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) survey using a DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone guided by the DJI Ground Station app. The average flying height is 80m, resulting in a ground pixel size of approx. 2.5cm. Photogrammetric processing is undertaken in Agisoft PhotoScan Pro, to generate a Digital Surface Model (DSM) and orthoimage of the local landscape.

Dalkey Islands, Dublin Bay

Description

Dalkey Islands are located 300m offshore in the south east of Dublin Bay. This group of three islands (Dalkey Island, Lamb Island and Maidens’ Rock) form a heritage site with significant archaeological, ecological and cultural heritage stretching back at least 5000 years. Remains include a mesolithic midden, promontory fort, 10th Century church, and 19th Century Martello tower and battery.

DThe granite bedrock of the island formed approximately 400 million years ago as the Iapetus Ocean closed and the continents of Laurentia and Avalonia came together. The same rock makes up the high point of Killiney Hill and the nearby Dublin Mountains.

The Geological survey as part of the CHERISH project conducted an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) survey of the islands in September 2020. This data will be used as a baseline from which to investigate the impacts of climate change on these iconic islands.

This document is intended to provide a thorough overview of survey specifications, standards and quality control measures implemented during survey operations. It provides a record of the datasets acquired during operations and a description of how this data was modified (processed) and managed before leaving the vessel for final validation and distribution to the end user.

The CHERISH project identified a number of sites around Anglesey for which the project required detailed bathymetric surveys. Two main type of sites were targeted; islands and shipwrecks. Islands that were identified for survey were Dulas and Puffin in the north east of Anglesey and Skerries on the north west. The objectives of targeting these islands were to both further understand their evolution and to join bathymetric data with existing LIDAR data for analyses. A number of shipwrecks were also targeted. These shipwrecks were located in proximity to the islands and also at the south west entrance of the Menai Strait.
